LISTEN TO YOUR GUT
This is an excerpt from my new book:
ENJOY EVERY BITE: End Your Struggle with Food and Weight Loss
It’s as predictable as the changing of the calendar. The New Year’s diet is an annual rite for many people. Of course, the “get ready for summer” diet is also a very popular one. When that doesn’t go as planned, the diet of a friend of a friend is a good choice. Or, I’ve heard fasting works…
Enough!
Diets don’t work long term. They don’t work long term because they disregard your thoughts, your lifestyle and your emotional and physical feelings. Paleo dude just doesn’t care about the many factors which influence how, why, when and what you eat. Keto man won’t be close enough to you to smell your breath. Eat-once-a-day guy is not forced to work with your grumpy, hungry ass all afternoon.
Your Gut Knows
I have nothing against any diet plan, as long as it works for you. The point is for you to feel your best and live a great life. You are the expert on your health if you pay attention.
This is why mindfulness works with every kind of eating style. When you are aware of your thoughts and feelings you are in position to decide what to include in your diet. Do carbs leave you foggy in the afternoon? Is oatmeal in the morning the thing to keep you satisfied until lunch? Do you need some meat in your diet to feel your best? Maybe a lighter meal featuring a salad for dinner will help you sleep better. When you eat mindfully, you become the guru for your health.
The objective is to learn through awareness which foods make you feel and perform your best. Be adventurous and try new foods. Have something green for breakfast. Try skipping dinner to see how you feel the next day. This is your life, your health and your choice. The great thing is in the long term, you will intuitively know what, how much and when to eat.
