BE AN INNOVATIVE THINKER

One of the cornerstones of innovative thinking is the ability to embrace uncertainty. You accept and may even enjoy knowing that you don’t know. This frees you to approach each moment with an open heart and an open mind. If you relinquish the need for immediate answers and relax in the process, you allow space for unexpected solutions to emerge.

Mindfulness also opens you to intuition. Intuition is often dismissed as a hunch, but it is the culmination of subconscious processes, observations, and experiences. If you don’t believe me, consider that Leonardo da Vinci suggested stepping away from work to gain new insights about it. Trust yourself.  Allow your intuition to guide you toward creative solutions that elude more logical approaches.

Innovative Thinking

This approach also nurtures a crucial aspect of innovative thinking: failure as a steppingstone to success. Just as an artist sees potential in every sketch, mindfulness allows you to perceive the lessons hidden within setbacks.

Remember what Thomas Edison said about all his failed attempts to create the lightbulb? Edison looked at each “failure” as one way not to do it. Hold a non-judgmental attitude toward your thoughts and experiences and you create an environment where failures become opportunities for growth and refinement.

Breaking Through

As you experience challenges, doubts or fears in real time, step back for a moment (at least take a deep breath) and allow solutions to emerge. The moment of quiet you give yourself is a tool to clear the mental clutter. As you know, meditation is not a passive; it is an active engagement with the inner workings of your mind, a practice that empowers you to transcend the confines of mental blocks. A single new idea can change your world.
