LET'S THINK BIG
Have you ever read the last chapter of a book first? You know, just to see how it all turns out? Does the hero overcome the odds, defeat the villain and find love? It all seems so simple when you know the outcome.
This could be the last chapter of my book, EMPOWERED: The Path of Optimal Health.. Why should I make you wait? I really want to share the excitement of where we are going right up front. You will also be in a better position to succeed when you think from the end.
What Do You Think?
What you think you become, is one of those truisms we all acknowledge and may not live. The incessant bombardment of ideas, opinions and feelings you are exposed to each day can smother you in mental chaos. This confusion leads to malaise and, if you’re not vigilant, a loss of hope.
The great news is you have the power to choose what you think. That’s what we’re going to explore over the next 18 weeks as I share the book, EMPOWERED.
It is your power of choice, which is the foundation of your empowerment.
The essential choice is to accept your ability to change the way you process the outside world. Yes, you are responsible for the meaning you give all of the diverse images, thoughts and sensations which make their way into your experience daily. That’s right…you choose your experience.
Simply entertaining this idea is one of the most exciting and life-altering things you can do. Yet, why can a simple comment from a friend or flippant social media post from a celebrity set you off? Is there a way to move beyond the habit of reacting to the world short of going off the grid and living in a cabin in the mountains?
You Decide
No matter how good (or terrifying) dropping out of the world may sound, it is probably not an option. You have people who love you, a dog to walk, work you enjoy and houseplants to water. You are here for a reason. Are you really going to be here and live on purpose, or are you going to bounce from emotion to emotion in response to what’s happening around you?
This is the real subject of Empowered. The focus is your health and wellness, but the ideas and exercises can be used for any area of your life. I know you are ready. All you have to do is embrace your power as the creator of your world.
So, Let’s Think Big
I told you we were beginning with the end in mind. There are four questions at the heart of Empowered, which you will answer in depth in the final chapter. I share them with you now in order to spur your imagination. Keep them in mind as you go through these posts.
1. When do I feel whole and energized?
2. Who are the people who help me feel like my best self?
3. How may I serve in order to make a difference in the world?
4. What action can I take right now to care for myself or another?
The focus of this work is your health. When you feel your best, you can be your best self. I hope the mindset and strategies we address over the next 18 weeks influence your life as a whole.
